Presents detailed profiles of over 280,000 companies in 12 countries, defining their full communication details such as names of senior executives, nature of business, trade brand names, subsidiary/associate companies, head office/parent companies, quality assessment award, employee size and establishment dates. It also covers over 50,000 products and services.

This full text database on business and economic information is excellent for international trade research. It draws materials from EIU business newsletters, EIU country reports/profiles and EIU publications such as Financing Foreign Operations and Investing, Licensing & Trading Conditions Abroad.

DataPro Communications Analyst

This full-text database contains general reports, comparison charts and product reports on data networking and the management of data networks. There is in-depth coverage of technologies and trends, standards, management issues and strategies, and vendors. The search facility also searches on computing publications like BYTE and LAN Times.

IEEE/IEE Electronic Library (IEL)

IEL is a full text database covering materials from more than 100 IEEE and IEE journals, 700 conference proceedings, and 600 standards published by the IEEE. It is an excellent source of information on: physics, electrical engineering, electronics, conferences, computer and control, information technology and standards

Covers all aspects of electronics, electrical engineering, computing, control, robotics, office automation, telecommunications, software engineering and information technology. The information is culled from a large number of technical journals, conference proceedings, books, reports and dissertations.

Maritime Technology Abstracts

This CD-ROM comprises two bibliographic databases by British Maritime Technology and the Institute of Marine Engineers. It has altogether more than 50,000 abstracts dating from 1940. The records are culled from major engineering publications and topics covered include marine safety, naval architecture, pollution from ships, ship board management and computers in the marine industry.

This CD-ROM contains full-text articles encompassing all issues of New Scientist from 1989. It also stores over 2,000 diagrams and graphics and the entire Inside Science series.

Specification 95

This CD-ROM contains (1) technical information, specification clauses and tables of products plus manufacturers related to the building industry, (2) indexes for the Architects' Journal, and (3) synopses of 265 publications from the Energy Efficiency Office's Best Practice Programme, plus 15 full-text documents.

This database consists of (1) an index disc storing document summaries from over 9,000 standards published by the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), and (2) the page images of all current ASTM standards. Contains a wide variety of marketing topics, ranging from demographic trends and forecasts to socio-economic indicators for labour force, industrial resources to transport infrastructure, travel and tourism, etc. for the world. The information is based on the two hardcopy editions of European Marketing Data and Statistics and International Marketing Data and Statistics.

SMC Ondisc

An index to three databases with information relating to Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and ASEAN(as an entity). • AGRICOLA  AGRICultural OnLine Access is produced by the National Agricultural Library (USA). This index database encompasses all aspects of agriculture and related disciplines, including plant and animal sciences, agricultural products, alternative farming practices, food and nutrition. Search the database for free.
  
  
• Asian Connection  Positioned to be the hub of information services in Asia, Asian Connection aims to provide comprehensive online network services in just one link. This site is provided by Singapore Network Services (SNS), which operates key nation-wide networks such as TradeNet, MediNet and LawNet in Singapore. The databases available online are:
  • Biznet  - This electronic information database service, provided jointly by SNS and the Registry of Companies and Businesses, offers you instantaneous access to information of Singapore-registered companies and businesses.
  • Singapore Parliament Reports System - This is an online text retrieval database containing the verbatim reports which were compiled during Singapore Parliament sittings, with recordings dating from June 1977 to date.
    
    
• ASTM Standards  Search the database of standards by the American Society of Testing and Materials using designation number or keywords. A summary of each standard is given.
  
  
• BioMedNet  The Library now has its own gateway page on BioMedNet - the World Wide Club for the Biological and Medical Community. BioMedNet membership is free, and joining through this gateway allows you access to the evaluated Medline database, the online library's comprehensive list of biological, medical and pharmaceutical journals, and the discussion groups.
  
  
• British Standards Electronic Catalogue  The British Standards Institution provides an online catalogue which can be searched or browsed.
  
  
• EIU Online  [Access is available from the Main Library and the Business and IT Library] This service by the Economist Intelligence Unit provides full-text articles on 24 Asia-Pacific countries from the following publications: Country Profiles, Country Reports, Country Forecast: Asia-Pacific Regional Overview, Business Asia and Business India Intelligence.  Covers topics on international trade, business and economic conditions for each country.
  
  
• ERIC  The ERIC database is a collection of bibliographic records on education which is available on CD-ROM, in print and on the WWW.
  
  
• In.Biz Business Information Connect  In.Biz is an information network established among Singapore libraries and information providers to provide a coordinated business information service to the business community in Singapore. This website provides links to the 7 participating libraries.
  
  
• Medline  Medline is the world's largest medical abstracts database. Free searching of this database is available through:
  • BioMedNet  Evaluated Medline, with recommended articles selected and annotated by experts, is available to members. Access is free, through the Library's own gateway page on BioMedNet.
  • Medscape  Access is free, but registration is required.
  • PubMed  This is the National Library of Medicine's experimental search service to access the 9 million citations in Medline and Pre-Medline (with links to participating on-line journals).
    
    
•  ProQuest Direct  [For SP users only]  This information service provides online access to an extensive collection of published material. Note that the service is available all hours except 3.00 - 4.00 pm daily (Singapore time). Databases available include:

• ProQuest Digital Dissertations This service allows you to search UMI's Dissertation Abstracts database for the current two years. The database contains abstracts of doctoral dissertations and master's theses from North American graduate schools and European universities.
  
  
• Reuters Business Briefing  [For SP users only] Search one of the world's most comprehensive business and news databases. The following are available from the database:
  • Archives - This contains ten years' worth of articles from Reuters and over 4,000 sources.
  • Wires - International breaking news from major news agency wires worldwide.
  • Companies - Ten years' financial summaries of over 30,000 quoted companies.
  • Quotes - Market index data and share price information for more than 30,000 companies.
  • Currencies - Foreign exchange rates from the world's major financial markets.

• Singapore Government Intranet  [Available to Government Intranet users only] Some very useful databases are listed in the Services section. E.g.
  • Land Data Hub  The objective of the Land Data Hub is to provide an integrated infrastructure for sharing land data in digitised form. It presently provides data exchange services on land data, a catalogue of sharable data, and on-line enquiry service.
  • PRECIS II  The PREss Clippings Information System (PRECIS) is a database of the Ministry of the Information and the Arts. It contains articles on Singapore culled mainly from the Straits Times and the Business Times. Coverage: 1988-1995.
    
    
• STAT-USA Internet Service  [Access is available from the Business and IT Library and the Reference Section, Library]  This service by the U.S. Department of Commerce provides world and U.S. business, economic and trade information collected by the U.S. Federal government.
